Hi Everyone,

The sun is shining, and all is well. What a difference it makes to our mood when the sun shines. Spring really is here and outside everything is blooming and sprouting and showing off wonderful colours. The trees are a brilliant green with many shades of colour, I love it! It makes everyone happy!

Our Centre has been very busy this past month. We have quotes coming in for our new floor and we’re going over samples. Our project manager Whitney Stus is taking very good care of us. Some of us had our picture taken this past week as we received a cheque for $28,500.00, from the 100+ Women who care, and this money has allowed us to proceed with our dream of new flooring for our Centre. We are so lucky!!!! I will try to keep you informed each month on how things are going.

Now for some more news as to what is going on at the Centre. Bag Baseball will be starting Thursday, May 26th from 11:00 a.m. till 12 noon. Origami will be on Tuesday May 24th at 1:00 p.m. for 1 hour. Line Dancing will be ending at the end of June and restarting in September. Please make note of these changes or keep your Newsletter to remind you.

Our Spring Tea is just around the corner on May 28th at 2:00 p.m., and the entertainment will start around 2:30. This Tea will be so much fun, and we are very excited about the best hat contest. There will be prizes and draws and yummy baking made by our members. We need to know who is baking and what you’re bringing so PLEASE call the office 250-586-5999. We can plan many functions at the Centre if everyone pitches in and shares a little, we are all volunteers! I just called the Center, and they don’t have many tickets left, a steal at $10.00, so get yours right away. You won’t want to miss out on the fun!

The Foot Care nurse will be at the Center on May 25th. Make sure you have an appointment by just calling the office; there is nothing better than taking care of those little feet that take care of you.

The winner of our monthly draw was won by Inge These. Enjoy your winnings Inge.

Our Kitchen Director Jerye has given me the menu’s for the next 5 weeks. Everyone is enjoying Jerye’s cooking, and they are telling me how good it is. For $9.00 you get one of the best meals in town. Just remember to phone the kitchen 250-248-3200 and put your name on the list so Jerye will know how many to cook for. Our hot meals are always on Friday and at the end of this Newsletter is the menu for the upcoming weeks.

I do my best thinking in the bathtub, and this morning I was thinking about how the Seniors Centre has enriched my life with so many new friendships and so much to look forward to in the future. I’ve watched the kindnesses you have given to those who are struggling with health issues, mobility problems, and the worst of all loneliness. Those of you who have been with the Centre for a while offer information, and a hand up when people need it. I love watching new faces light up when they discover they’ve found a great place to come to, and people just like them. I still remember Liz’s welcome when I came to the Centre and I figured out I was old enough to be here, and I could have fun. Keep up the good work!!!! And thank you for caring. Looking forward to seeing you at the tea and remember to ask if we need some help with anything.

Until next month, continue to be kind to others. Bev Swann Editor

PS I’ve enclosed my Rootbeer Baked Bean recipe, I use 1/2 teaspoon of root beer for better flavour. This recipe tastes great with potato salad and fried chicken, Yum!!!
