April 2025 Newsletter
2025-04-22
Hi Everyone,
Once again, it's newsletter time, and I’d like to tell you all that this is my last newsletter
I’ll be writing. I’ve enjoyed writing this newsletter every month, and many of you have told me you’ve enjoyed what I’ve written. I appreciate your kindness.
I have an office that overlooks my front yard and the street, and now that it’s spring, our magnolia tree is in full blossom, and the dogwood tree is just beginning to bud. The outdoors is calling me to come out and play, so I’ll do that. Walking in my neighbourhood is so pleasant, and the neighbours all talk to each other and share any news that might be happening. We all have a Trump moment and reach the same conclusion on what should be done with the man. Because we are Canadians, we can shop Canadian, fly our Canadian flag, and be grateful for living in this great country.
Remember to vote. Many Americans didn’t, and now they face the consequences of their actions and the mess their country is in. Bill and I voted today and waited about 20 minutes to enter the building. It was nice to see all these early voters, knowing that voting is not over until the 28th of April. We all need to care about what is happening here and how it will affect our children, our grandchildren, and, for a few of us lucky ones, our great-grandchildren. I want to feel that our country will be strong and free, and that we will give them the opportunities we had.
Moving to Parksville twenty-one years ago was our best move ever. We’ve met and made many wonderful friends. We’ve felt safe and secure in our home. We sit at our kitchen table watching the humming birds eat at the feeder, and when we look to the sky, the eagles entertain us as they swoop, dive, and fly away from the crows that are bothering them. How lucky are we!
I’ve enjoyed my time of service at the Parksville Seniors Centre. Being a greeter and introducing new people to the Centre has allowed me time to get to know them and their interests. Working? Being with the canasta players on Monday has started my week with a smile on my face, and the once-a-month Board meeting has kept me informed about what is coming up and how we can make the Centre a better place for all who attend. I would have never made new friendships with others had I not volunteered, so what is stopping you from volunteering? The Centre needs kitchen volunteers now!!!!! The kitchen people who are working in the kitchen are fabulous, and they need you. Come and make new friends. I was asked at the board meeting to remind all members about kitchen rules. PLEASE!!! Do not bring and consume any food or drink not purchased from the Centre. “Food allergies?” Please inform our kitchen volunteers.
Our draw winner this month is Arta Juneau. Arta, thanks for paying your dues!
Just a reminder: Our Annual General Meeting will be held on April 30th at 1:00 p.m. The Centre will not have any other activities on this day as we set up the room in the morning.
You should attend this meeting to learn how the Centre is run. At the end, we will hold an open forum for any questions or suggestions you might have.
We are also looking for Greeters to fill spaces that will be empty at the end of this month, and I know you’ll love this job. I’m still planning on being at the Centre, and I’ll do my body a favour by exercising it. You never know what classes I’ll be in.
Have a spring-filled month and enjoy the flowers and beautiful trees that are in bloom. Go for a walk and remember to be kind.
Choices Market will be giving another free information presentation series about Gut Health. The series starts on Wednesday, May 14, from 1:30 to 2:30 and runs until June 11. More information will be sent in a separate email.
