November 2023 Newsletter
2023-12-04
Well, it would appear that the holiday season is upon us. It seems to get here earlier each year. I do love this season though. The Centre is all decorated for Christmas, so come and take a look.
The craft/bake sale on November 18th was very successful. We almost sold out of goodies and the crafters seemed happy. What else can we ask for? We did have three handmade quilts donated for the sale and two of them have sold. We have one left and it is beautiful. If you would like to see it please talk to one of our Directors.
We have some news from the kitchen. Liz Hintz, the kitchen manager, will be stepping down at the Annual General Meeting in March. She has been the Manager for a couple of years and was the President for seven years before that. She will definitely be hard to replace. And other news from the kitchen is Jerye, who bakes those delicious scones on Tuesdays and also does the hot lunch on Friday, will also be stepping down, but not until the end of spring. We will definitely miss all that Jerye does for us, my hips most of all!!!
We are looking for volunteers for all areas in the Centre, but specifically for Kitchen Manager and help there. If you think you can help us please approach any member of the board.
I’m going to tell you about an incident we had in the Centre this week. One of our members misplaced her purse and we searched high and low for it. We would have had Liz Moore, the fitness leader, send out an e-mail to the people in the class about it, but Liz is on a well-deserved vacation to the sun. I couldn’t figure out how to let people know until I remembered the sign-in book. We had asked you all to sign in with your first and last names, and everyone does. All we had to do was go back to the sign-in book for Tuesday and we could send everyone a message. It reinforced for me how important the sign-in book is and how we really appreciate everyone signing in with both names. We did find the purse and our member was very appreciative.
Another thing that happened at the Centre on Monday was with Brian, our technology teacher. He had a full slate of five appointments this week. Only one person came. Two others called to cancel and we really appreciate this, but two others never showed up. Brian’s time is very valuable so when you have an appointment with him, please try to attend. For my part, my time in the office is Monday morning and I can hear Brian showing people how things work. I have learned a lot just by listening to him with other members. He is very knowledgeable and explains things clearly. Where else can you get free help with technology?
Here’s a reminder of the Christmas closures for the Centre. We close at noon on December 22nd and reopen on Tuesday, January 2nd. The morning of December 22nd we will be having a drop in pajama party. Come and enjoy yourselves and really get in the Christmas spirit.
By the way, I ran this by Bev and she was very disappointed that I didn’t include a recipe. So, I’ve attached a recipe for Perfect Cookies, which are raisin and walnut, and very delicious. There are two copies of the recipe on the page in case you would like to share.
We hope you all have a wonderful, safe, healthy Christmas break and hope to see you again soon.
