It’s Fall and all the colours will be out soon, and it’s raining, and we are so happy it is!!!! I am a wet coast (yes wet coast, not west coast) girl born in Vancouver, and I came out with flippers, so I swam early, and I loved the rain; just kidding about the flippers, but I do love the rain.
Some things to think about this month, we’ve been asked about Euchre, a card game, also bag baseball, shuffleboard, scrabble, and crib. We would be willing to do any of these games if enough of you are interested, Wednesday mornings from 10:00 – 12:00 is free. There will be sign-up sheets put on the Members Board (where you hang-up your coats) for you to sign if something catches your attention. We’ll look forward to hearing from you.
This month will be busy for all of us being Thanksgiving (long weekend) but we think some of you may love a Turkey lunch on Saturday, October 28, 2023. The tickets will cost $15.00 each with only 40 tickets being sold, and will be available to purchase on Tuesday, October 10. This lunch will be the full meal deal, turkey with all the trimmings, including pumpkin pie, and tea or coffee to drink. Doors will be open at 11:30 and we’ll look forward to seeing you.
November will also be busy for the Centre. Saturday November 18, 2023 we will be having a Craft and Bake sale from 10:00 to 2:00 pm with vendors setting-up at 9:00 am. Our tables are all sold now but we will be taking a wait list. What we will be looking for from you is ‘BAKING’. This is a fund raiser for the Centre so if you like to bake and make it pretty this is your opportunity to help. Kate and I will be heading this affair, and we really need to know what you will be baking and the amount, so we don’t have too many duplicates. At this time, we only have 5 people signed up, but I know there will be many more as most of you are great bakers. Think Christmas, and what you’d like to buy to impress your company. Please call the office to get on the list, and we could use a few more volunteers to help with this event as well.
I wanted to share a story with you about a day I was feeling blue. What every woman knows is when you feel like this you go shopping. I did need a picture for the bathroom we had just renovated, and I thought of Demex on the highway. Off I went and in the store I just meandered about. There was one picture I looked at and it made me smile so I stopped and sat down and watched other people walk by and the picture made them smile as well. It was not a picture I would be looking for as it was a cow, and now not just any cow but a cow with flowers in her hair, big blue horn-rimmed glasses, a flowered blanket covering her shoulders, and a loving look in her big brown eyes. I thought maybe I should continue to look around and off I went, and then I came back to the cow and watched people look at the cow and smile. I knew I was having a whimsical moment, (really not sensible me), but I needed to take her home. “Whimsy” as we now call her has a place of honour on our bathroom wall. As my son Richard said, I really like that cow Mom and he’s smiling and I say “so do I”. So, if you’re having a blue day put something on display that makes you happy. It could be any object as long as it makes you smile when you see it. Your day will be much better for doing so. Now if I’m unhappy I just go to my bathroom and visit “Whimsy”!
A little heads up; we will start collecting dues for 2024 on November 20, 2023. Make it easy on yourself and pay early. Cost will remain the same, just $20.00 for the whole year of Fun!
Our winner this month for the $20.00 Thrifty’s gift certificate is Jane Lovatt, congratulations Jane.
The recipe I’m sharing this month is Liz Hintz’s carrot soup, so yummy on a cold day.
Enjoy the Fall, enjoy the rain, splash in a puddle on purpose, go for a walk and love where we live. Have a wonderful month.
