February 2023 Newsletter

2023-02-16 Last Updated on: 2023-03-01

Once again its newsletter time and we have news to share. Next month we have St. Patrick’s Day, and we will be having another delightful luncheon to share with you. Our luncheon date is Saturday, March 18, 2023 at noon, and the tickets will be ready to sell Monday on March 6, 2023. The cost will be $15 each, with Kate and Andy’s fabulous cheese buns to dip into our scrumptious Irish stew, along with a dessert that is mouth-watering, tea or coffee, and then our melodious choir, and other surprises to entertain you. There will be no holding or phone call ordering for your ticket, as we only have 40 tickets to sell and you must pay for them in person with cash or cheque only. I will tell you that our Ukrainian lunch sold out in 1 day, so don’t be disappointed, pick-up your ticket March 6th.

Another date to put on your calendar is March 29th 2023 It is our Annual General meeting. It’s a Wednesday, at 1:00 pm with no other activities on that day. Please, please, plan on attending this meeting. We, the Board, need your input to help us plan for the next year We also need a President to guide our Centre and the Board members in making wise decisions for our future. At this time we have over 300 members, surely we should have 50 members willing to help us by showing up on this day. I will be looking for your face in the crowd and applauding you for coming and caring!

It has been brought to our attention that some of you have been bringing your lunch from home and eating it at the Centre. You, should not be doing this as our Kitchen volunteers wonder why they are in the kitchen waiting for your order. They work very hard to accommodate all of us and we should respect this. The small amount of money made for having this service “HELPS” our Centre to pay the bills. Our lunches are low priced and the soups are delicious. For many seniors who are alone it is a time to be with friends. Please respect this lunch service we do for all of you who enjoy the lunches we serve. Do not bring food to the Centre.

Last month I mentioned a new class “Painting for Pleasure”, with Fran Carrat. This class sold out and she has 10 happy painters and a waiting list. If you wish to paint with Fran phone the office and put your name on a wait list. Fran’s sessions will be for 6 weeks at a time. You will receive a call when the painting will begin again.

This month’s winner of the Thrifty’s gift certificate is Liz Moore, our fitness instructor. Congratulations Liz.

Just a thought, have your dues been paid yet? And if not, why not? Just a thought! One of our members at the Centre decided she wanted a sweet to go with her tea the other day and she asked what I had to serve. My answer was Sour Cream Coffee cake, so she tried it and liked it. I had made the cake, (you know if you like to bake, the Centre always appreciates donations of home baking to serve) and she said I don’t taste the coffee in it and I’ve often wondered why they call it coffee cake. I thought about that for a moment and said this cake compliments the tea or coffee you’re drinking. I asked her if she’d like the recipe with the newsletter and she said yes, so it’s included this month.

I’ve has a birthday this month and I’ll share something I read. The secret of enjoying life is to count your blessings, not your birthdays. What great advice.

There are two days no-one should spend today worrying about - yesterday and tomorrow.

Have a fun filled month and enjoy the sunshine when we have it.
