March 2024 Newsletter

Congratulations to us all. We made it through another Winter, and now we’re on to Spring. I’m originally from Ontario, and the end of March is nothing to celebrate there. When I was a child, we had snow on the May 24th long weekend, so I really appreciate the weather here on the Island.

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is on April 3rd at 1 p.m. The Centre will be closed that day for all activities except the AGM. Please come and participate. We need a quorum, or we will have to reschedule the meeting. This is where we try to determine the course of the Centre for the next year. So, if you have suggestions or comments, this is the place and time to raise them. We also vote for the Board and Executive and are looking for two additional board members. Two of our current board members, Liz Hintz and Norma Haugland, are stepping down, and we would like to fill these openings. So please, come and see what the AGM is all about.

Starting March 25th, the greeter or director each day is going to check everyone’s membership cards. When you sign in each time there will be three columns on the page. One is where you print your name. The second column will be for your membership number, and the third column is where you check yourself out.

The Centre will be closed on Good Friday, March 29th, but we will be open again on Easter Monday, April 1st.

The people from Ears to You will be here for free hearing tests on March 25th. The spaces are all full for that day, but we will be scheduling more times for this in the future.

The Centre has an urgent need for a Kitchen Manager and a Kitchen Scheduler. One person can do both duties, or it can be two people. We need this because our current Kitchen Manager, Liz Hintz is stepping down after many years of volunteering. If these positions are not filled, the kitchen cannot function. If you value your lunches and coffees, please consider stepping up. Liz will show you what needs to be done.
