Newsletter March 2023

2023-03-25

Happy sunshiny day everyone.

There is something about sunshine that makes all of us smile as we look forward to spring and all the beautiful leaves in many shades of green that will spoil us with all their splendour. I had an artistic friend who said to me, “look at the trees and tell me what you see”. I said, “they are green” and he laughed and said now really look at the trees and tell me about the many shades of green. After that conversation my eyes were opened to the splendour of everything around me. I love being outside and feeling the sun on my face and I know so many things will be happening in the ground as Mother nature takes care of all we enjoy. Take some time when it’s sunny and just go outside to make you feel happy.

This month was our St. Patrick’s Day lunch and we had so many hands at the Centre who made it a happy lunch for the lucky 40 who bought a ticket. I know everyone enjoyed the entertainment provided for their pleasure too.

We are planning our Spring Tea on May 28th, so keep that day open on your calendar. I’ll tell you more about that in my April newsletter.

Speaking about keeping your calendar open, this month is our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. and we the Board will be ever so happy to see your smiling faces. There will be NO activities on that day. We also are looking for one more Board member to help us make our Centre the very best it can be.

On Wednesday April 5th at 10:00 a.m. we are starting up playing Scrabble and Cribbage for those who are interested. So for those of you who signed up, this is your day!!!!

We have 7 people who wish to play Bag Baseball. We need 8 to play (12 would be better). A scorekeeper would be needed and training will be available. Come and have an hour of magical fun playing at the Centre.

We’ve been asked about Fran’s painting class and what paint she uses. For your information it’s acrylic which is better for clean-up on our new floors. Also for your information, if there is ‘SNOW’ in the weather or on the ground and you are unsure if the Centre will be open, we will have a message when you phone us. Our advice is stay home, and be safe!

More information: On Sunday, April 16th at 1:00 p.m. there will be a training session for all our new volunteers and greeters, the Board will all be there for you to ask questions, and if you think you may want to volunteer, please come join us, we’re a fun group to be with!

Just one more thing: we’ve decided to have a Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, November 4th, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Those of you who are interested in booking a table please call the Centre at 250-586-5999 and put your name on the list.

Our choir director, Kirsteen Mclean has a problem!!!!! We need a new keyboard! Ours is on its last leg! WE HAVE A DREAM, and I know we can buy one with your help! This needs to be a Keyboard that is movable and not heavy, and an example can be found at Long and McQuade for around $2,000. Our choir is important to all of us, both singers and listeners. They are entertaining and fun, and they create memories and friendships. We decided to set-up a Donation Box for the new keyboard in the kitchen and maybe Kirsteen can be coaxed into having a special concert this Spring or at Christmas if we haven’t raised the money by then. I hope you can help us achieve this dream, thank-you all.

This month’s winner of the Thrifty’s gift certificate is Freida Giesbrecht, congratulations Freida.

A couple of weeks ago we had a volunteer luncheon and I brought some of my “Made with Love” cookies, and I’ve been asked to share the recipe. I hope you enjoy these cookies as much as my friends and family.

Have a sunny month and see all the colours of spring.
