October 2023 Newsletter

2023-10-26

Hello Everyone. We are preparing this newsletter without the input of Bev Swann, your regular editor, so if it is less amusing and informative, please excuse us.

Our Harvest Lunch is this Saturday, October 28th. There are still some tickets left, but they are going quickly. Don’t be disappointed. Come and get your tickets now. Thank you to Thriftys for their generous donation of a gift card, which we are going to use to buy ingredients for this luncheon. This is such a fine time and the food is so wonderful you won’t want to miss it.

We start accepting membership renewals on November 20th. The renewal will cover the entire 2024 year. The fee is still only $20, and we use this money to run the Centre. It helps keep the lights on and the building clean.

Our Christmas Craft and Bake Sale is on Saturday, November 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Along with the crafts and baking, we will be selling two large pieces of artwork by silent auction.

We will be decorating the Centre for Christmas on Sunday, November 26 at 10 a.m., followed by a potluck lunch. Come and have fun. We will be removing the decorations on Saturday, January 6th at 10 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch.

The Centre will be closed for Christmas from noon on December 22nd to our reopening date on Tuesday, January 2nd.

We had an incident at the Centre when one of our members became very ill. He had not signed in and the people that were there only knew his first name. They had to flip through all three membership books to get his last name so that they could contact his emergency contact. This is a reminder to sign in when you come into the Centre. Make sure to include your first and last name and then when you leave, check off your name. This is also extremely important in the case of a general emergency at the Centre. If everyone has to evacuate, the Director on duty grabs this book and makes sure that everyone has left the building.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Volunteer/Greeter retraining this past weekend. An e-mail has been sent to all Board members and Greeters covering what was talked about at the training. Please feel free to call the Centre if you have any questions.

Our winner this month of the Thriftys gift certificate is Lenia MacDonald. Congratulations Lenia.

Last week’s hot Friday lunch was lasagna. People have asked for the recipe so it is attached to this newsletter. I have it under good authority that the recipe is simple and not fiddly. Enjoy.
